MacNeil and Color in 2021 / by Linda MacNeil

Q: Which colors are dominant in your work at the moment?

MACNEIL: Most recently, I have been gravitating towards reds and oranges. Also, my choice of 24k gold plating on the metal is making a rich color contrast with the glass. Pantone's orange ochre is one of the colors of Spring/Summer fashion in 2021. I particularly liked its appearance in the Valentino Spring/Summer Couture show in Rome (images on my Pinterest board "Color of spring 2021" or see below). Vogue said the show had "the aura of a new kind of minimalism." During the pandemic, the designer, Pierpaolo Piccioli @pppiccioli, focused on color, simple shapes and form. This resonates with my own work.

Above are six of the 12 Pantone colors of Spring/Summer 2021, you can see them appear on many of the runway images gathered on my Pinterest board snapshot below.

As an artist, color trends are not relevant in my work, but perhaps, if you believe that everything is connected and that a creative mind is sensitive to both the tangible and the intangible then an attraction for, or a leaning towards certain colors might be more than it appears.
