Working with Linda

INFLUENCE AND PROCESS

Linda’s work has many influences spanning the history of art and design, from ancient Egyptian art to Art Deco and Art Nouveau. Her work is also influenced by her mentors and their teachings.

Observations of nature from the surrounding the countryside and in her garden also inform her creations. However the biggest influence on any commission is that of the person it is created for. Her book entitled The Jewelry and Collectors of Linda MacNeil is a collection of portraits of eighty women, each wearing their different pieces created by MacNeil. The book shows over 100 necklaces worn by the women they were made for. Each unique. Each a cherished work of art.

HOW TO COMMISSION A PIECE BY LINDA MACNEIL

A commissioned piece, from beginning to end typically takes up to three months.

To begin, browse Linda’s work by exploring the nine series featured on this website. Take note of the number of any piece or pieces that you are drawn to.

Complete the Commissions and Acquisitions Contact Form

You can also pin your favorite pieces to a Pinterest board and add the link to your page rather than listing individual pieces on the form. This may make it easier to collect your ideas over time. (On this page is a video guide on how to do this if you do not already have a Pinterest account).

Once Linda receives your commissions form, Linda will email you and arrange a time for your first telephone conversation.

Linda will discuss your color preferences and sensibilities and then begin sketching a design for you. From the design drawings, a final budget will be determined and installment payments set up.

With the design approved and upon receipt of the initial payment, Linda will begin making the piece. This takes several weeks as every element within the piece is skillfully made by hand in her studio. When the piece is finished you will be asked to send the final installment and the piece will be shipped to you.

The video above illustrates Linda’s creative process. Each preliminary drawing is the path to the final piece.
